Abstract The essay we worked on is about pigeon houses in Iran as a sign of local architecture and a best method of improvement in agriculture as well as it, being one of the social impact of architecture and the way it influences the culture of a society.
Pigeon house is a very interesting and remarkable sample of local architecture in Iran. According to the literature it has a history of about 700-1000 years but, the best of it has been built during the Safavid Dynasty and the kingdom of king Abbas the great (1587 A.D). Pigeon houses in Iran are mostly built for their use of fertilizer and are big enough to support big farms. This kind of architecture is also important for its social impacts. Because, building pigeon houses based on commercial needs, led to create the job of pigeon-house keeping. As well for the landowners it was a sign of wealth, as big it was and as more its decorations were.
It can be said, though the pigeon house is forgotten in present time, there are several uses for this kind of architecture.
This can be used for its agricultural benefits as it used to be and also can be renovated as a tourist attraction in the field of local architecture.
