Abstract Undoubtedly, one of the best ways of achieving sustainable energy is to study the ancient architecture principles of Iran, methods and approaches, which are already verified during time, to be beneficial in preserving energy. Through these principles, contemporary architecture can be guided towards the thoughtful design and achieving sustainable construction.
Here, a vivid example of this type of architecture located in Iran, Isfahan province; will be studied. This example is distinguishable for the reason that it can be revitalized with the same use as it used to be benefited from.
Pigeon House is a unique noteworthy example of local architecture in Iran. Based on regional and political characteristics and circumstances of Shah Abbas The Great’s era (During Safavid Dynasty) Pigeon Houses were mostly located in the central area of ancient Iran and Isfahan (where was the capital in the time). Pigeon Houses were built of the size that each one could easily produce enough amount of animal fertilizer needed for a single farm during one year.
Despite the role of these Pigeon Houses were diluted in the contemporary architecture of Iran, but it can be reconsidered in both agricultural and historical perspectives.
